Safe and Strong Families Program

A support program for First Nations victim-survivors of domestic or family violence, with a focus on families, children and youth.

Gurehlgam’s Safe and Strong Families Program (SSF)

This is a family-friendly program that supports victim-survivors and their children —recognising victims in their own right—  who are experiencing or at risk of family & domestic violence.

Our aim is to create safe, supportive, and culturally respectful environments where families can build resilience, heal from challenges, and thrive together.

The program focuses on empowering families through practical strategies, peer support, and tailored services that strengthen relationships and promote wellbeing.

SSF’s core responses include:

  • capacity building

  • peer support and mentoring

  • intake and assessment

  • advocacy

  • material aid

  • referrals, skills development

  • specialist services; and

  • safety planning.

By addressing immediate needs and fostering long-term capacity, the program seeks to break cycles of harm and contribute to stronger, healthier communities.

Our team consists of two Aboriginal Case Workers. They can help deliver culturally-respected care to families across the Clarence Valley Local Government Area. Contact our Grafton office and ask for Chloe and Pam, or email DFSV@gurehlgam.com.au
